Vanessa:
I gained my degree in French from the University
of Reading, during which time I also spent a year in France, in Orléans.
Here I gained my love of teaching from my work as an English language
Assistant at the Lycée de la Source.
After graduating, I worked for Air France
at Heathrow Airport for a short time. This was a wonderful opportunity
to continue to hone my French language skills on a daily basis but it
was not my vocation.
I went back to university and gained a Post
Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) from the University of Reading.
My first full time teaching post was at
the John Hunt of Everest School in Basingstoke. After five years there
I moved into the private sector. I was appointed Teacher of French at
Downe House School, a high achieving all girls’ public school
in Berkshire, where I taught for 28 years. I became highly respected
by both colleagues and pupils, achieving superb results for both the
girls and the school. I have excellent references from both the school
and private tutees.
I have also been a Guide Leader in the UK.
I helped to set up and run a Girl Guide Unit in Thatcham, Berkshire.
During this time I became the first and only Guide Leader in my area
to gain a qualification for International trips. I successfully led
two trips to Switzerland and one to France during my time with the Guides
as well as helping with summer camps in the UK.
I am a keen social tennis player and swimmer.
Tim and I have been married since 1981.
We have two daughters, both of whom are now working in the UK, having
successfully graduated from their respective universities.
